Ray Charles - “Hallelujah I Love Her So”

This tune is a great introduction to chart reading.

The form is simple, the hits are unambiguous and the band is grooving like crazy.

Once a student is comfortable with a basic 2 feel and reading pages 34-37 in Syncopation this is a great chart to work on.

Notes to review with student on the chart:

-almost all of the ensemble figures are interpreted with a stick on stick hit on the snare

-review "road map" terms with student.

-repeat sign

-endings

-D.C. Al Coda

-Reinforce that the groove never changes except to play the hits.
